Following completion of a consultation exercise earlier this year, the Duchy of Cornwall gives Notice that it intends to impose restrictions relating to the use of civilian motor vehicles on the Loop Road, South of Okehampton Camp.  

From Friday 18th September 2009 civilian motor vehicles will not be permitted South of the existing MoD barrier on the East side at Observation Point 22 or South of the existing MoD barrier on the West side (grid ref 597921). Access for commoners, National Park, MoD and emergency service vehicles will be available at all times and furthermore, access will be granted to the closed sections on a case by case basis for events such as Ten Tors and the Jubilee Challenge (not training).

These restrictions are being implemented in order to address the long term management of the Road as the Southern section continues to revert from tarmac back to natural stone. This is with a view to enhancing the environment and lessening the visual intrusion that the use of vehicles has within the landscape. The Duchy is most grateful for the publics’ cooperation with this matter.
