Okehampton Camp
A Rough Guide to Okehampton Camp:
The road from Okehampton leads in to the lower left-hand corner of the
map, then splits, the left fork giving access to the main Camp for
event
personnel, while the right fork heads diagonally past the playing
fields
towards the Main Public Entrance. All vehicles without special
passes
will be directed to turn right off this road to the Main Car Park,
opposite
the event camping areas 'A', 'B' and 'C': access to the Start and
Finish,
and to the Okehampton Camp facilities is then by foot, past the Farm
and the Jubilee Challenge Car Park, then through the Main
Public Entrance.

An aerial photo of the
Camp,
taken during Ten Tors 1999 from the same viewpoint, is available - and
yes, the tepee is there...
Camp Sites in Okehampton Camp
Due to a tree planting project within the Camp, some areas which have
previously
been used for camping are no longer available. Participants in the main
event are to camp on the designated Main Camp
Site only (marked A to F, Y and Z on the above map). Free camping
elsewhere
is not encouraged.
Road Exit from Okehampton Camp
For the event in 2000, the Ten Tors Committee arranged with Devon
Highways
for the temporary opening of the emergency slip road which leads off
the
Camp access road to the West-bound carriageway of the A 30(T).
All
vehicles heading for the A 30 were directed down this route, thus
relieving
the traditional congestion and tail-back in Okehampton. Those
drivers
who wished to travel Eastwards, towards Exeter, were also directed onto
the slip road and turned under the A 30 at the Sourton Down junction,
to
join the East-bound carriageway. The routes were well
signed.
The temporary arrangement was enforced through the Sunday of the event,
from 0800 - 2000. A similar arrangement has been made for all
subsequent Ten
Tors events.
