With a little less than an hour
to go to the close of Ten Tors 2010,
there are only about twenty-five Teams left out on the Moor - and a
glance through the Route cards shows a lot of Complete Teams coming in
- fantastic effort!!

We're coming up to the big push -
there will be a huge number of Teams
coming in over the next couple of hours. If you're wondering when
your Team might finish, visit the map link on their route card and see
how far they have left, or try the Calculator on the
FAQ
page...

Our broadband link from Dartmoor
is creaking under the load - you've
probably noticed the patchy Route card updates. We're taking lots
of photos, but we can't squeeze them up to the web site over the link -
we'll upload them all this evening and tomorrow. Judging by the
crowd at the finish line though most of you are here in person,
applauding them over the line!! Brilliant stuff!

Welcome to Ten Tors Sunday - your
Teams are coming home! The
webcam is now live on an overcast and chilly Anthony's Stile - and
Emit's tracker site is now on-line,
follow
this
link, and select your Team(s) from the drop-down list.

More Teams are camping now, and we'll
leave the updates running
overnight so that you can check up on them all, but not much will
happen after about 21:00 (check the camping rules, below). Spare
them all a thought as you head for your beds, your Teams will be
climbing into their possibly less welcoming sleeping bags, and if you
possibly can be here tomorrow to welcome them home please do - it will
be an unforgettable day!

The Route cards are showing a few of
the Teams as '
Camping' now, and
a little
explanation might be needed:
- no Team may pass a Tor
checkpoint after 20:00
- Teams on 35-mile Routes (A
to L)
must
camp at a manned checkpoint
- If the staff at a checkpoint
calculate that a 35-mile Team will not reach their next checkpoint
before 20:00, the Team will be stopped where they are
(A
quick look at your Team's Route map should show why they're camping
where they are)
- Teams on 45- and 55-mile Routes (M
-
V and W - Z) may pass
a Tor checkpoint at
any time before 20:00, then camp at any sensible point on their route
(Many 45- and 55-mile Teams will scramble to pass one of their
checkpoints shortly before 20:00, then walk on into the night and aim
to
camp just short of their next Tor, ready for an 06:00 start
on Sunday morning)
- The final part of the Camping rules are that no Team may
pass its ninth Tor (?!) on
Day One

We've been off down the Moor to meet a
few of the Teams crossing to the
South Moor, and while it's grey and drizzling here at Okehampton, it's
dry and cool down there. The Teams we had a word with said they
were feeling fit - and they looked it - but no doubt they'll be looking
forward to a meal and a few hours sleep, after they've stacked on a few
more miles! We have photos, but you've seen some of the Route
Cards go blank through the morning as we were trying to squeeze the
last batch up the line - we'll upload later.
Sat 08-May-2010 at 10:43:50 - Updated:
We're starting to see a few fallouts on
the Route cards - these appear
as letters in the '
Fallouts &
Status' column on the Route Cards. If these apply
to your Team, follow
this
link for an explanation. Essentially a letter (representing
a Team member) in the Status column of a Route Card means that the
individual is safe and is in the recovery system, on their way back to
Okehampton and their Team Manager.

We're removing the link to the
Emit
tracker site while they clear the problems - once they're resolved
we'll reinstate the pointer, apologies, but we hope you're following
your Teams' progress on the Route cards here!

Our broadband link from
Okehampton has a few issues - we're attempting
to upload the photos, but they're killing the link throughput.
We'll get there, but not as fast as we'd like... meanwhile your
Teams are putting in a sterling effort on their routes, enjoy!!

The Teams were unleashed on their
routes a few
minutes ago, and we'll
post '
Photos' on the
link opposite as soon as we can. You'll be eager to see when
they reach (and they'll be
eager to get to) their first Tor checkpoints. The web site is
linked directly to the Ten Tors control system and we'll have regular
updates (every fifteen minutes) detailing the Teams' progress - you'll
have the information as soon as it's reached us!
The Tor closest to the start is Oke Tor, about 4km from the start, and
is visited by four routes on the outward journey. The
Teams on the 45-mile
Route T are
likely to
reach it just ahead of their 35-mile colleagues, at around 07:45 -
you'll have time for coffee and toast while the Teams head towards
their first checkpoints - breakfast for them will already
be a distant memory...
The 'live tracking' feature seems to have a few issues just now - the
Emit guys are checking it out - please bear with them...

Good morning and welcome to Ten
Tors! We're off to get some
photos of the start shortly, on a damp and overcast 50th anniversary
morning!!
Fri 07-May-2010 at 17:20:22 - Updated:
The uploads are still occasionally patchy, but with just eleven Teams
left to register we'll leave them running unmanned overnight...
some photos to upload later from a chilly Teams' campsite, but other
than cool the weather is being fairly kind - hope it stays this way
tomorrow and Sunday!

You might have noticed we're having some issues with the updates - it
seems to be down to the broadband link here. We're working on it,
meanwhile please bear with us...

Updated:
The Route assignments are
published - with one minor glitch - the
cards are currently showing '2009' rather than '2010'... we'll
fix that as soon as we can!
Fri 07-May-2010 at 08:27:28 - Updated:
The Teams will be told the routes
they've been assigned when they
register, from 10:00 this morning, then they'll begin the task of
plotting their exact paths across the Moor. We'll publish the
Route allocations here, as soon as possible after 10:00, then we'll
track them as registration of the 400 Teams proceeds through the day.

A few shots from the end of the
afternoon on the photos link, focusing
on the Sea Kings ferrying out the Tor parties to the more remote
checkpoints - while the Ten Tors managers and support crews were
putting the finishing touches to the Teams' camp at the other end of
the site.

We're live from Okehampton
Camp! In between connecting up kit I'm
attempting to keep up with your emails - weather here is a gentle
drizzle, with the near Tors hovering in and out of the mist.
Looks set to improve slowly over the weekend, meanwhile the Teams'
campsite is filling. Hope to get a photo or two later this
afternoon to set the scene!

We're on our way! The website has packed all its bits into a
backpack and it's heading for Okehampton. Updates could be patchy
until mid-morning tomorrow, when we should be reconnected to the
world. See you there!!
